YSU Academic Challenge is the Youngstown, Ohio area high school quiz bowl program that airs on ABC station WYTV on Saturday nights and reairs on Sunday nights on MyYTV. Stan Boney, the chief meteorologist at WYTV, is the host of this program that premiered in 2002. In 2008 Academic Challenge changed its appearance but kept its old rules. When it premiered, the show was taped at Bliss Hall on the campus of Youngstown State University. Two teams of four students representing different high schools across the WYTV viewing area compete in a game similar to that of the format of College Bowl.

Although it is unincorporated, it has a post office, with the ZIP code of 44451. It lies along State Route 45 between Salem and Warren. The community is part of the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. North Jackson is the site of a Marian shrine of the Roman Catholic Church, the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon.

According to the US Census Bureau, the metropolitan area includes Mahoning and Trumbull counties in Ohio and Mercer county in Pennsylvania. The CSA includes the county of Columbiana in Ohio. This area also has a strong commuter interchange with Cleveland and Pittsburgh and their metropolitan areas. Parts of Steel Valley make up the metropolitan area.

Founded in 1805 on the West and Middle Branches of the Nimishillen Creek, Canton became a manufacturing center because of its numerous railroad lines. After the decline of heavy manufacturing, the city's industry diversified into service economy, including retailing, education, finance, and healthcare. The population was 80,806 at the 2000 census, but according to a 2008 census estimate, the population has declined to 78,362. Despite this decline, the 2008 figure actually had moved Canton up from 9th to 7th place among Ohio cities, as nearby Youngstown in neighboring Mahoning County, once considerably more populous than Canton, had suffered a larger decline. According to the US Census 2008 estimate, the Canton-Massillon, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area has a total population of 407,653 residents.

The population was 3,900 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.3 square miles (8.6 km²), of which, 3.3 square miles (8.5 km²) of it is land and 0.30% is water.
